Jean-Yves Marrec, 2014 guest of honour

Originally from Brest, Marrec now lives at works at Quimper. He is passionate about the pastel medium, colours and harmonies exuding the light of the seaside leap from his paintings. He defines himself as a marine artist working in pastels. The coast, port,  harbours and boats are among his favourite subjects. The remains of wrecked vessels also form intriguing subject matter and in these pictures you will often find subtle variations of greys and seductive mysterious shapes emerging.
The artist is a great admirer of the impressionists as well as contemporary artists but refuses to be linked to any particular school. His aim is to share his emotions visually through the artworks he produces. “I believe that curiosity encourages you to learn and to gain a better understanding of the world around us,” he says.

His pastels are exhibited regularly in numerous collective shows and personal exhibitions. In association with the Pastellistes de France, he has shown his work internationally. He has received a number of prizes and his paintings can be found in a large number of private collections in France and overseas: the Netherlands, England, Ireland, S[pain, Italy, Canada and the USA.  Jean-Yves Marrec is represented on a permanent basis at two galleries:

  • LES FUNAMBULES gallery at Vannes
  • L'ATELIER gallery at Best
